NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware softball head coach B.J. Ferguson has announced that Stefanie Kenney has joined her staff as a part-time assistant coach.
Kenney, the sister of current Blue Hen junior pitcher/first baseman Michelle Kenney, replaces former assistant coach Adrienne Clark, who recently took a similar position at Columbia University.
Kenney, who will work with both the UD pitchers and hitters, was a four-year standout at Hofstra University from 2001-05 when she led the Pride to four Colonial Athletic Association championships. She earned second team All-Mid Atlantic Region and second team All-CAA honors as a freshman, when she led the league with 15 wins in the circle. Kenney also batted .304 on the year and was named the CAA Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Kenney went 1-3 in the circle and batted .189 in 2003 during her sophomore campaign, when she was a first team All-CAA selection. She was named to the all-conference second team as a junior when she batted .248, and she hit .357 during her senior year when she earned first team All-CAA and second team all-region honors. Kenney finished her career with 90 runs batted in and 20 home runs for the Pride.
“We are looking forward to having Stefanie join our program and work with our players,” Ferguson said. “Her experience as a former player in our conference will be extremely beneficial for all of our kids.”
Kenney graduated from Hofstra in May, 2005 with a bachelor of science degree in liberal arts and earned her Master’s Degree from Hofstra in elementary education this January. While at Hofstra she was involved with the Big Brother Big Sister program and the Head Start Reading Program. She has worked as a student teacher at Harold Fayette Elementary School and currently is a Great Valley Teacher’s Aide in Malvern, Pa.
