CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- University of Delaware freshman centerfielder Jenny Richards was named to the Carolina Classic All-Tournament Team after her stellar play during the Blue Hens’ four games at the tournament over the weekend.
Richards, a native of Trabuco Canyon, Calif. (Mission Viejo HS), went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored Friday during her Blue Hen debut, an 8-7 victory over UNC Greensboro. She began her college career by throwing out a runner at the plate in the top of the first inning, and singled home fellow freshman Gina Knutson in the bottom of the second.
Richards went 1 for 3 during Saturday’s loss to Saint Joseph’s, and led the Blue Hens with three singles Sunday against UNC Greensboro.
Richards led Delaware with a .429 batting average and six hits during the season-opening tournament.
Delaware returns to action this weekend when the Blue Hens play four games at the East Carolina Pirate Classic.
