LEWISBURG, PA - Susan Dugan and Kristi O'Connell combined on a one-hitter in the nightcap as Delaware gained a split with Bucknell in a softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. Dugan and O'Connell combined to give Delaware a 5-0 win in the second game after O'Connell held Bucknell to four hits but lost in the opener, 1-0. In the first game, the Bison (6-3) scored the game's lone run in the third inning. The inning started with a leadoff double by Kristina Tan. Meredith Gill followed with a single up the middle. Tan scored on the play and Gill moved up to second on a throwing error. However, O'Connell got Lauren Titus to ground out and struckout Barbara Wood and Jenna Demetriades to end the threat. Delaware (10-5) had a chance to tie the game in the sixth when Krissy Chrisztopulos reached on a bunt single with one out and stole second. Christine Brady singled to left, but Chrisztopulos could not advance. However, Lauren Mark and Christy Wilkins both grounded into fielder's choices to end Delaware's threat. In the nightcap, the Blue Hens broke open a 1-0 game with four runs in the top of the seventh. After Christzpoulos scored on a throwing error, Amanda Cariello reached safely on a squeeze play that made it a 3-0 lead. Christy Wilkins followed later in the inning with an RBI double, which was followed by Lauren Mark's RBI single. Dugan struck out eight and walked one in her six innings of work to raise her record to 6-1. O'Connell, who fell to 4-4 in the Game 1 loss, struck out two in the seventh to close out the nightcap. Delaware hosts Vermont this weekend in the conference opener. Saturday and Sunday's twinbills begin at 12 noon.
