PHILADELPHIA -- Susan Dugan picked up her 12th straight win and Kristi O'Connell extended her scoreless innings streak to 44 straight as Delaware swept a doubleheader from LaSalle, 7-0 and 11-2, in softball action Wednesday. Delaware extended its winning streak to a new school record 13 straight games with the wins. The Blue Hens are now 22-5 on the season and head for a showdown with Hofstra this weekend on Long Island. Delaware is 8-0 in league play, while Hofstra, which earlier this season knocked off then-No. 1 UCLA, is 7-1 in the league and 16-12 overall. Delaware entered the game with the best team ERA in the nation at 0.58 and, although the margin was trimmed, it still held onto the lead. The Blue Hens have an ERA of 0.6153 currently, barely ahead of Arizona, which gave up an earned run in a 3-1 win over Arizona State Tuesday night. The Wildcats, which are No. 2 in this week's NFCA Top 25 poll, have an ERA of 0.6176 entering this weekend. Washington, ranked No. 1 in the NFCA Top 25, is third in ERA at 0.70. O'Connell, UD's all-time winningest pitcher, picked up her 10th win of the season and 52nd of her career. She is now 10-4 this season with an ERA of 0.48 and has not allowed a run since a 1-0 loss at Bucknell back on March 22. She pitched the first five innings before giving way to freshman Brooke May, who tossed a scoreless sixth and seventh. Freshman Melissa Basilio, named America East Rookie of the Week earlier in the day, went 3 for 3 in the opener, scoring twice and driving in a third. Freshman Jen Nicolais, who had shown signs of breaking out of her early-season slump Sunday vs. Drexel, went 4 for 4 in the opener. Delaware had 16 hits in the first game. In the nightcap, Dugan raised her mark to 12-1 on the season by hurling five strong innings. May came on to pitch a scoreless sixth and seventh. Basilio scored twice in the nightcap as well, going 1 for 2 with a pair of walks. She is now 8 for her last 11 in the last four games. Delaware took advantage of eight hits, nine walks and seven LaSalle errors in the nightcap. The Explorers dropped to 6-25 on the season. Delaware and Hofstra are slated to square-off Saturday and Sunday in their four-game America East showdown both days at 12 noon.
