EASTON, PA -- The University of Delaware
softball team (32-12) swept Lafayette College (6-36) today
(Tuesday) in a doubleheader 6-3, in nine innings, and
6-1.
Lafayette jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the
first inning when Regina Galati knocked in Elizabeth
Siliato. The Hens took the lead in the second when Amanda
Cariello and Robin Zielinski scored. The Hens made the
score 3-1 in the fifth when Carolyn Wasilewski scored on an
error by the pitcher. Lafayette closed the gap to 3-2 in
the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single by Jana Defillipps.
Lafayette tied the game in the seventh on an Ali Berlin
single. Krysta Pidstawski picked up her 14th win of the
season while Lafayette's Erin Hall took the loss.
Delaware opened the scoring in the second
game when Lauren Mark tripled, her ninth of season which
sets a new UD single season record, which plated Robin
Zielinski. Mark scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.
Lafayette scored its lone run on a Kelly Wise home run in
the fourth inning. Delaware plated three runs in the fifth
inning to make the score 5-1. Zielinski doubled home
Carolyn Wasilewski to make the final score 6-1. Kristi
O'Connell recorded her 16th victory allowed just three hits
and striking out three. Michelle Garvey picked up the loss
for Lafayette.
Delaware returns to action on Friday when
the Hens, in their final home game of the season, host
Drexel in a doubleheader that starts at 2:30 p.m.
