Volleyball Finishes CS-Fullerton

CA -- The University of Delaware
Volleyball team finished up the California
State University Fullerton Tournament 1-2
after defeating Iona University and being
defeated by California State Fullerton
today.
Valerie
Murphy (right) led the team in kills, 40
on the day, while Sarah Engle followed
with 32, six service aces, and freshman
Claire McCormack added 26. Allison lutz
had a strong day setting posting 98
assists total. Taylor Govaars continued to
lead the Blue Hen's in digs with
53.
The
Hens began play at 10 a.m. Pacific time
today taking on California State
Fullerton. The 3-1 loss dropped Delaware
to 0-2 in the tournament and season. Engle
led the team offensivly with 20 kills,
while Murhpy had 13. Lutz recorded 43
assists and Govaars 29 digs. For
California State, Lauren Goins tallied 16
kills, while Jenna Carney posted 31
assists.
At
4:30 p.m. Pacific time Delaware faced Iona
University in their final match of the
tournament with a 3-1 victory going in
Delaware's favor. Murphy recorded 27
kills, McCormack 16, and Engle 12. Lutz
posted 55 assists while Govaars tallied 23
digs. For Iona, Chelsea White and Miki
Hogg both recorded 11 kills and Emily
Mansur put up 40 assists.
Govaars
was named to the All-Tournament team for
the Blue Hens.
The
Hens return home next weekend to host the
University of Delaware Inivitational. Game
one for Delaware is scheduled for Friday,
September 10, at 2 p.m. against the
University of Albany.
