of Delaware Volleyball Team Clings to
Colleen Walsh to Lead Them Past Howard,
3-0
NEWARK,
DE (October 26, 2004) -- The University of
Delaware volleyball team snapped a
two-game losing streak Tuesday night as
freshman Colleen Walsh (Cleveland,
OH/Regina - at rigiht) recorded nine of
the Blue Hens' school record 20 services
aces in a 3-0 sweep over Howard University
at Barbara Viera Court.
The
Blue Hens had an easy time of it as they
rebounded from two tough Colonial Athletic
Association losses last week to post the
win, their 10th in 11 home games this
season. Delaware improved to 17-6 on the
season while Howard drops to 6-16
overall.
Val
Murphy (Round Hill, VA/Loudoun Valley) led
the Delaware attack, hitting .733,
recording 11 kills and a block while Sarah
Engle(Yorba Linda, CA/Esperanza) recorded
nine kills, hitting .300. Allison Lutz
(Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) tallied 25
assists for the Hens.
Also
finding her way into the record book was
senior Taylor Govaars (Balboa, CA/Newport
Harbor) whose 12 digs on the night place
her ninth in the books for most digs in a
single season with 468.
Delaware
hits the road on Friday, October 29 to
face UNC Wilmington at 7 p.m. in Colonial
Athletic Association play.
