 University
of Delaware Volleyball Falls to Towson to
End Nine-Game Home Win
Streak
NEWARK,
DE (October 16, 2004) -- The University of
Delaware volleyball team fell short to
Towson on Saturday 3-0 (30-16, 30-26,
30-16) to end a nin-match home win streak
at Barbara Viera Court in a battle for
first place in the Colonial Athletic
Association.
The
Blue Hens are now 16-5 on the season (5-2
in the Colonial Athletic Association),
while Towson improves to 16-5 (6-1 in the
CAA).
The
Tigers held Delaware's offense to 33
points throughout the match and held all
Delaware hitters to under 10 points for
the first time this season as Delaware was
out-blocked 27-5, out-killed 38-24, and
out-dug 56-43.
Sarah
Engle (Yorba Linda, CA/Esperanza - at
right) posted the most kills for the Blue
Hens with six as freshman Colleen Walsh
(Cleveland, OH/Regina) led the team in
points with five kills, a service ace, and
two blocks for a total of eight points.
Taylor Govaars (Balboa, CA/Newport Harbor)
tallied 13 digs.
Neither
team had a player with double digit kills
as Towson was led by April Hoffman and
Sarah Miller, who each had nine, and
Christina Grempler, who posted eight
blocks.
Delaware's
next opponent is Hofstra University on
October 20 in Hempstead, NY at 7
p.m.
