University of Delaware Volleyball Defeats UNC-Wilmington 3-0 to Remain Unbeaten at Home

NEWARK, DE (Oct. 2, 2004) -- The University of Delaware volleyball team continued its homecourt win streak on Saturday after defeating UNC Wilmington, 3-0 (30-19, 30-19, 30-25). The Hens are also undefeated in Colonial Athletic Assosciation play at 3-0.

Niecy Taylor (Albuquerque, NM/Cibola) and Valerie Murphy (Round Hill, VA/Loudoun Valley) led the attack for the Hens, each posting 12 kills and four blocks. Taylor added three service aces, making her the points leader on the day for both teams with 17 while Murphy finished with 14.

Also combining with similar numbers were Colleen Walsh (Cleveland, OH/Regina)and Sarah Engle(Yorba Linda, CA/Esperanza), each tallying nine kills. While Walsh posted one block assist Engle went on for three recording 10.5 total points.

Taylor Govaars (Balboa, CA/Newport Harbor-right) marked 24 digs on the night and Allison Lutz (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) tallied 46 assists.

As a team Delaware hit .325 overall hitting .400 in game one, .325 in game two, and .256 in game three. They totaled 54 kills, 49 assists, and seven blocks.

For the Seahawks, Kate Bennet led the team in kills with nine. She tied Felicity Rbalkin, who had seven kills, one blcok solo, and two block assists, in total points with nine and was surpassed only by Lindsey Moffitt (9.5) who recorded eight kills, one service ace, and one block assist.

Delaware, which is now 13-3 on the season, will face Villanova on Viera Court on Wednesday, October 5 at 7 p.m.
