Commonwealth, 3-0 on Senior

-- The University of Delaware volleyball
team won it's sixth-straight match, and
secured a spot for the upcoming Colonial
Athletic Association Tournament by
defeating Virginia Commonwealth, 3-0 on
Senior Night, Saturday night at Barbara
Viera Court.
Prior to
the game, the Blue Hens honored seniors
Taylor Govaars (Balboa, CA/ Newport
Harbor), Nicole Stuka (Saugus, CA/ Hart),
Valerie Murphy (Round Hill, VA/ Loudoun
Valley-at right), and Sarah Engle (Yorba
Linda, CA/ Esperanza).
The Blue
Hens won by game scores of 30-26, 30-13,
30-25 to improve to 22-6, 9-3 in the CAA.
Virginia Commonwealth fell to 5-19, 1-10
in the CAA with the loss.
The Blue
Hens were led by Engle as she recorded a
double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs
while fellow seniors Govaars had a match
high 21 digs and Stuka just missed the
double double with 9 kills and 11 digs.
Murphy rounded out the senior group with
11 kills.
Junior
Niecy Taylor (Albuquerque, NM/ Cibola) hit
a team best .526 with 12 kills and only
two errors in 19 attacks. Freshman Colleen
Walsh (Cleveland, OH/ Regina) had a team
high 14 kills while fellow freshman
Allison Lutz (Burnsville, MN/ Burnsville)
had 32 assists.
The Rams
were led by Griselle Lopez Pereira with 16
digs while Shahrzad Firouzabadian had 27
assists and 13 digs for the double double.
Rachel Chapin just missed the double
double with 10 kills and nine digs.
Delaware
continues road play on November 12 at 7
p.m. when it travels to Towson for a
crucial CAA match-up.When the two teams
met earlier this season, Towson handed
Delaware its only loss at home this
year.
