Volleyball Drops Season Opener To Texas
State, 3-2, As Taylor Govaars Passes 1,000

CA -- The University of Delaware
volleyball team dropped its season-opener
Friday afternoon at the California
State-Fullerton Tournament, falling to
Texas State University, 3-2, (30-24,
30-19, 23-30, 26-30, 18-26).
Delaware
fell to 0-1despite leading in kills
(71-59), assists (67-55), and service aces
(5-3). Texas State improved to
1-0.
Taylor
Govaars (Balboa, CA/Newport Harbor)
recorded 20 digs and two service aces for
the Blue Hens to become the ninth player
in Delaware history to reach the 1,000-dig
mark. Govaars now has 1,014 in her career
and is just 25 digs away from eighth place
on the school career digs list.
Valerie
Murphy (Round Hill, VA/Loudon Valley) led
the attack for the Blue Hens by recording
19 kills while Sarah Engle (Yorba Linda,
CA/Esperanza) added 15 and two assists.
Claire McCormack(Downers Grove, IL/Downers
Grove) posted 19 digs and freshman Allison
Lutz (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) recorded
60 assists in the first match of her
collegiate career.
Kacee
Rogers led Texas State in kills with 16
while Krystal Kolkhorst posted 51 assists.
Amy Ramirez recorded 23 digs for the
Bobcats, followed by Nicole Blumhorst with
18.
Delaware
plays twice Saturday in the California
State Fullerton Tournament. The Blue Hens
open at 10 a.m. (PT) against host Cal.
State Fullerton and at 4:30 p.m. will take
on Iona.
