HEMPSTEAD, NY – The University of Delaware took the first game 15-3 but top seed Hofstra rallied to win the next three 15-1, 15-13, 15-8 to capture a 3-1 victory at the America East women’s volleyball semifinals at the Hofstra Physical Fitness Center Wednesday night.

 Hofstra, the top seed, won its 14th straight match to improve to 25-5 while the Blue Hens, the No. 4 seed, ended the year with a record of 12-21. The Hens had also lost at Hofstra 3-1 this past Sunday in the regular season finale for both teams.

 Hofstra, which has never lost a game at home to Delaware, moves on to host the America East championship Saturday vs. the winner of Wednesday’s game between No. 2 New Hampshire and No. 3 Northeastern. The winner receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Enkelejda Katiraj led the Flying Dutchwomen with 18 kills and eight digs while Stefanie Rewitz had 14 kills, 20 digs, and four of her team’s 10 services aces, and Lindsey Birkel had 54 assists and 12 digs. Hofstra won for the 25th time in its last 28 matches.

Delaware, which has advanced to the league tournament under head coach Barbara Viera every since joining the America East in 1991, received 17 kills and 25 digs from senior Joanna Dusza, 10 kills and 12 digs from junior Jennifer Wanner, and 46 assists from senior Sadie Bjornstad.

Dusza, a two-time All-America East selection, ended her career with 1,342 kills and 1,683 digs to rank No. 2 all-time in Delaware history in both categories.
