The University of Delaware volleyball
team defeated Drexel University, Wednesday night at
the Bob Carpenter Center 3-1. The Blue Hens
improved to 11-15 overall and 4-4 in the America
East conference. Drexel fell to 7-18 for the season
and 1-7 in conference play. The teams split the
first two games with Delaware winning the first
15-9. Drexel responded by winning the second by the
same score. Delaware rallied from an 8-1 deficit in
the third game to win 15-11. Delaware jumped out to
a 14-4 lead in the fourth game only to watch Drexel
claw back into the match and close the deficit to
14-11. Delaware won the game and the match on a
service ace.
The Blue Hens were led by Carlyn
Cangiano (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial HS) who had
19 kills and 26 digs. Cangiano also became the
fifth player in Delaware history to record 1,300
digs for a career when she recorded her sixth dig
of the match. Kristen Merrill (St. Louis, Mo./St.
Joseph's), who sat out the last two games with a
shoulder injury, came off the bench to have nine
kills and 14 digs.
Jennifer Wanner (Akron, Pa./Conestoga
Valley) had 18 kills, eight digs, and six blocks.
Sadie Bjornstad (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) led the
Hens with 46 assists.
Drexel was led by Nancy Sgagliarich
and Courtney Krumrine who each had 17 kills. Kari
Hall led the Dragons with 16 digs.
