Delaware vs. Hartford Nov. 15, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. W 3-0
The University of Delaware volleyball team
defeated the University of Hartford 3-0 Sunday at
Carpenter Sports Building. The victory assured
Delaware a berth in the America East Championship
at Hofstra University September 21 and 22. Sunday's
victory knocked Towson out of the running for the
fourth and last playoff berth. Delaware will be
the No. 4 seed in the tournament and play the No.1
seed on Saturday. The winner of the America East
Championship will receive an automatic bid to the
NCAA Tournament. Delaware has never made an
appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Delaware
improved to 15-19 on the season and 8-6 in the
America East conference while Hartford fell to 9-25
for the year and 3-11 in conference play. The Blue
Hens dominated all three games winning 15-5, 15-10,
and 15-3. Delaware was led by Carlyn
Cangiano (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) who
had 15 kills and 12 digs. Jennifer Wanner
(Akron, Pa./Conestoga Valley) had 12 kills for the
Hens. Cameo Neeman (Wilmington,
Del./Ursuline Academy) also had double digit kills
for the Hens with 11. Sadie Bjornstad
(Rockford, Ill./Boylan) led the Hens with 45
assists. Hartford was led by Rebecca Pappas who had
nine kills. Gina Fogarty had a team- high six
digs.
