The University of Delaware women's
volleyball team won an important conference match
beating Hofstra 3-1 at the Carpenter Sports
Building on Saturday. The Hens moved their record
to 13-17 for the season and 6-5 in America East
Play, while Hofstra moved to 17-11 and 9-2
in America East play. The two teams split the first
two games. Delaware won the first game 15-10 while
Hofstra won the second game by the same score. The
Blue Hens won a closely contested third game 15-12
and then won the fourth game 15-8 to take the
match. Delaware was led by Jennifer Wanner
(Akron, Pa./Conestoga Valley) who had 19 kills and
10 digs. Kristen Merrill (St. Louis, Mo./St.
Joseph's) and Carlyn Cangiano (Ellicot City,
Md./Centennial) also had double-doubles for the
Hens. Cangiano had 18 kills and 11 digs while
Merrill had 11 kills and 18 digs. Sadie
Bjornstad (Rockford, Ill./ Boylan) led Delaware
with 49 assists.Hofstra was led by Suzanne Shaw who
had 19 kills and 16 digs for the Dutchwomen.
Enkelejda Katiraj had 17 kills and 10 digs while
Laura Nissen led Hofstra with 53 assists.
