The University of Delaware volleyball team
defeated Towson University Wednesday 3-1 at the
Towson Center.
The University of Delaware improves to 14-17 on
the season and 7-5 in America East play while
Towson University fell to 14-18 and 6-6 in
conference play. The Blue Hens were led by Sadie
Bjornstad (Rockford, Ill./Boylan), who set a
new single-match assist record for Delaware with 75
assists. The old record was held by Nikki
Brassell who had 73 assists against Lehigh in
1995. Jennifer Wanner (Akron, Pa./Conestoga
Valley) led the Hens with 21 kills. America East
Player of the Week Carlyn Cangiano (Ellicott
City, Md./Centennial) led Delaware with 28 digs.
Kristen Merrill (St. Louis, Mo./St.
Joseph's) also had a double-double for the Hens
with 13 kills and 21 digs. Towson was led by
Merideth Baron who had 21 kills. Heather Turay and
Lia Kaltrieder each had 28 digs for the Tigers. The
Blue Hens return to action on Saturday when they
host Northeastern at 1 p.m. and William & Mary
at 7 p.m. at Carpenter Sports Building.
