NEWARK, DE -- The University of
Delaware volleyball team split its two matches Saturday in
the Delaware/ASICS Invational, defeating Lafayette, 3-0, and
losing to Liberty, 3-1.
In the opener, Jennifer Wanner had
nine kills and five blocks to led Delaware (5-9) past
Lafayette (1-11) by game scores of 15-5, 15-5, and 15-1.
Michele Maughan added five kills and two digs, and
Allison Hunter recorded 17 assists and six service
aces.
In the nightcap, Rachel Harnack recorded
30 kills to lead Liberty University (3-10) past the Blue
Hens 6-15, 15-13, 15-8, 16-14.
Wanner notched a team-high 19 kills and
Margaret Lapinski added 22 digs, but it wasn't
enough, as the Hens saw their three-match winning streak
snapped.
In the other two matches of the day,
Morgan State defeated Liberty, 3-0, and Lafayette,
3-0.
The All-Tournament Team included Cameo
Neeman (Delaware), Allison Hunter (Delaware), Rachel
Harnack (Liberty), Theresa Passamani (Liberty), Tiffanie
Sebree (Morgan State), Melissa Ommundsen
(Lafayette).
Delaware returns to action Wednesday when
the Blue Hens travel to Baltimore to take on Loyola (MD).
Delaware will open conference play Saturday when it hosts
America East rival Drexel at 1p.m. in the Carpenter Sports
Building.
