NEWARK, DE -- The University of
Delaware volleyball team almost pulled off a dramatic
comeback win in its 2000 season finale Saturday night, but
the Hens fell just short in losing 3-2 (15-9, 15-9, 11-15,
8-15, 15-13) to Northeastern at Barbara Viera
Court.
After losing the first two games,
Delaware responded by winning the next two and led 7-6 in
the fifth game, but Northeastern would tie the game and not
trail again. Delaware was led by Cameo Neeman, who
posted 25 kills and nine blocks, and Allison Hunter
who set a freshman record with 65 assists, breaking her old
mark of 62 set earlier this year.
Delaware, which finishes the season at
15-17 overall and 8-8 in the America East, also received a
big match from Margaret Lapinski, who notched a
double-double with 16 kills and 17 digs.
Kristin Deatherage led Northeastern
(19-14, 12-3) with 22 kills, and Suzana Stojakovic added 14
digs. The Huskies have already clinched a spot in next
week's conference tournament. This year marks the first year
that Delaware has not qualified for the tournament since
joining the America East.
