CHAPEL HILL, NC -- Jennifer
Wanner had a match-high nine kills, but it wasn't enough
as No. 21 Santa Clara handled Delaware, 3-0, in the opening
match of the Carolina Classic on the campus of the
University of North Carolina.
Santa Clara, which entered the
AVCA/USA Today Top 25 this week for the first time
since 1993 after sweeping 11th-ranked Pacific last week, won
the match by the game scores of 15-4, 15-13,
15-1.
Margaret Lapinski added eight
kills and 14 digs for Delaware, which lost for the sixth
straight match and fell to 2-6 on the season.
The Blue Hens take on Louisville and
North Carolina on Saturday in Day 2 of the
tournament.
