Freshman Megan Stadler serves one up in Delaware's 3-1 loss to Maine

NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware opened the 27th Annual Delaware / Asics Volleyball Invitational with a loss at the hands of Maine, 3-1.

Despite winning the first game, 30-25, the Hens were unable able to hold off the Black Bears, as they rallied to take the final three games of the match, 30-23, 31-29, 30-21.

Freshman Sarah Engle led the Blue Hen effort by assisting on 35 of her team's 48 kills. Cameo Neeman had 10 kills and three aces. The loss was the Blue Hens' first in five all-time meetings with the Black Bears. Delaware dropped its record to 3-6 on the season.

Earlier in the night, St. Peter's (4-2) downed University of Maryland-Baltimore County (5-6), 3-1.

Invitational play resumes Saturday morning when UMBC takes on Maine (3-5) at 9 a.m. Immediately following the ending of that game, the Blue Hens will face St. Peter's. They will then close the tournament with UMBC, after the completion of the Maine-St.Peter's contest.
