NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware volleyball team was defeated by Hofstra University Friday night, 3-0, at Viera Court at the Carpenter Sports Building in their Colonial Athletic Association opener.

Hofstra captured the first game, 30-19, then won games two and three by identical 30-24 scores. With the loss, Delaware fell to 0-8 on the season.

Sophomore Valerie Murphy (Round Hill, VA/Loudon Valley) led Delaware with 12 kills, while freshman Niecy Taylor (Albuquerque, NM/Cibola) had nine. Junior Allison Hunter (Sandy, UT/Layton) recorded 28 assists.

Hofstra was paced by April Nick with 14 kills and Brie Katz with 23 assists. Alessandro Pollo also notched nine kills for the Flying Dutchwomen, who improved to 7-2 with the win.

The Blue Hens return to action Saturday evening when they play host to the Drexel Dragons. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
