Blue Hens Sweep Third-Straight Match

NEWARK, DE -- Junior Valerie Murphy posted 16 kills while sophomore Niecy Taylor registered 14 and junior Sarah Engle had 10 as the University of Delaware blanked James Madison, 3-0, Saturday night in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action at Viera Court.

The Blue Hens (9-9, 3-2 CAA) won their third straight match - all by identical 3-0 scores. The last time a Delaware team accomplished that feat was back in 1997, when it shut out Fairleigh Dickinson, Morgan State and Navy. The win also equaled the Hens win total for all of 2002.

James Madison (7-10, 2-3 CAA) swept all three meetings from the Blue Hens last season, including a 3-0 sweep in the quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament in Harrisonburg.

Senior Allison Hunter had 51 assists and nine digs for Delaware, while junior Taylor Govaars had 10 digs. The Dukes were paced by Dana Jones, who had 12 kills, and Emilee Hussack with eight kills and five digs.

Delaware returns to action next Friday when it travels to Fairfax, VA to take on the defending CAA Champion George Mason. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
