September 27, 2003 Murphy, Taylor Propel Hens Past Explorers Valerie Murphy Posted a
Career-High 26 Kills For Delaware. NEWARK, DE -- Junior co-captain Valerie Murphy posted a career-high 26 kills and sophomore Niecy Taylor added a career-high 16 as the University of Delaware volleyball team rallied from a two games to one deficit to down LaSalle, 3-2, Saturday night at Viera Court. Senior Allison Hunter also posted a career-high 69 assists for the Blue Hens (5-7), who improved to 20-1 all-time against the Explorers. Delaware took game one, 30-23, before the Explorers (7-10) took game two, 30-28. LaSalle opened up a 2-1 lead by winning game three, 31-29, before Delaware rallied for the second time in three matches to win game four, 30-25, and gave five, 15-7. Sophomore Sarah Engle had 14 kills for Delaware while fellow junior Taylor Govaars notched 25 digs and freshman Claire McCormack registered nine kills and 10 digs. Robyn Wright led the Explorers with 15 kills while Lauren Woods posted 14 kills and nine blocks. The Blue Hens return to action this Tuesday when they travel to Washington, DC to take on the Hoyas of Georgetown University at 7 p.m.
