 University
of Delaware Volleyball Finishes Rider
Tournament Unbeaten
LAWRENCEVILLE,
NJ (Sept. 24, 2004) -- The University of
Delaware volleyball team finished the
Rider Tournament unbeaten Saturday after
first downing host Rider 30-22, 30-26,
30-24, and rounding out the tournament by
defeating Princeton 25-30, 17-30, 30-23,
30-17,16-14.
The
Hens, who captured their second tournament
title of the year after winning the
Delaware Invitational Sept. 14-15,
improved to 10-3 on the season.
Valerie
Murphy (Round Hill, VA/Loudoun Valley) led
the Hens attack with 17 kills an no errors
against Rider. Claire McCormack (Downers
Grove, IL/Downers Grove South)
(right)posted her second straight
double-double performance recording 12
kills and 19 digs while Niecy Taylor
(Albuquerque, NM/Cibola) led the team in
blocks with three solo blocks and two
block assists.
McCormack,
Murphy, and Taylor led the Hens over
Princeton as McCormack recorded a
third-straight double-double with 18 kills
and 18 digs, Murphy posted 23 kills, and
Taylor tallied 17 kills. Taylor Govaars
(Balboa, CA/Newport Harbor) recorded 38
digs in the five game match. Freshman
Allison Lutz's (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville)
66 assist performance was good enough to
place her tied for sixth on Delaware's top
10 list for most assists in a match with
Paige Harrison.
Allison
Lutz and Valerie Murphey were selected to
the All-Tournament team for
Delaware.
Delaware
will return to Barbera Viera Court on
Wednesday September 29 to host Hofstra in
Colonial Athletic Association at 7
p.m.
