 HARRISONBURG, VA -- Freshman Kelly Gibson posted a game-high 26 kills and had 15 digs to lead the University of Delaware volleyball team to a 3-2 (27-30, 30-27, 30-28, 22-30, 15-12) win over Colonial Athletic Association rival James Madison Friday evening at Sinclair Gymnasium/Godwin Hall.
Senior Niecy Taylor recorded 14 kills and matched her career-high of nine blocks, while sophomore Colleen Walsh, who ranks second in the CAA in kills (3.69) and points (4.21) per game, made 16 kills and posted 11 digs in the win. Sophomore setter Allison Lutz made a game-high 52 assists and recorded nine digs. Junior Heather Ranck posted 14 digs, while classmate Claire McCormack made 10.
Jena Pierson led the Dukes with a game-high 27 digs, while teammate Emilee Hussack made 13 kills and 17 digs in the loss. Bayli Stillwell recorded 15 kills, while Allyson Halls had 11.
James Madison holds a 15-13 all-time advantage over the Blue Hens.
Delaware snaps a two-game losing streak and improves to 6-13 overall (3-5 CAA), while James Madison drops to 10-6 overall (4-4 CAA).
The Blue Hens will be back in action Saturday, October 8 when they travel to Fairfax, VA to take on CAA opponent George Mason for a 5 p.m. match.
