 NEWARK, DE -- Whitney Turner recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs to lead the Northeastern University volleyball team to a 3-2 (22-30, 30-28, 17-30, 30-27, 15-12) victory over the University of Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association action Saturday evening at Barbara Viera Court.
Kelly Gibson had a career night for the Blue Hens, recording game highs of 16 kills and 26 digs. Heather Ranck notched 20 digs and four service aces, while teammate Claire McCormack added 17 digs. Clar Farwell posted 13 kills, while Niecy Taylor had 12 kills and a game-high six blocks. Colleen Walsh recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs, while Megan Welch made 14 digs and had a career-high six blocks. Megan McGrath recorded nine kills and had six blocks.
Northeastern’s Brandie Genibrel notched a double-double with 10 kills and 21 digs, while teammate Kira Batura posted 20 digs. The Huskies were also led by Lauren DeTurk who had 13 digs, while Chelsea Carroll made 10 digs in the match.
The match marks the 26th meeting between Delaware and the Huskies, with Northeastern holding a 17-9 advantage all-time.
Delaware drops to 5-13 overall (2-5 CAA), while Northeastern improves to 7-8 overall (5-3 CAA).
The Blue Hens will be back in action Friday, October 7 when they travel to CAA opponent James Madison for a 7 p.m. match.
