Delaware Volleyball Loses 3-2 Heartbreaker to Northeastern

BOSTON, MA-- Brandie Genibrel recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 27 digs to lead the Northeastern University volleyball team to a 3-2 (30-23, 25-30, 25-30, 30-27, 15-10) victory over the University of Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association action Friday evening at Solomen Court.

Colleen Walsh posted a game-high 19 kills, while Kelly Gibson recorded 15 kills and 10 digs for Delaware. Heather Ranck, who leads the CAA in digs per game with 5.21, notched 33 digs, while teammate Allison Lutz added 20 digs. Clar Farwell had 10 kills and seven blocks for the Blue Hens, while Niecy Taylor recorded five blocks.

Northeastern’s Whitney Turner notched a double-double with 17 kills and 15 digs, while teammate Kira Batura posted a game-high 35 digs. The Huskies were also led by Lauren DeTurk who had 15 kills, while Ashley Reeves had 11 kills and 12 digs in the match.

The match marks the 27th meeting between Delaware and the Huskies, with Northeastern holding a 18-9 advantage all-time. The Huskies topped the Blue Hens 3-2 when the two teams met on October 1 at Viera Court.

Delaware drops to 9-19 overall (5-10 CAA) while Northeastern improves to 11-14 overall (8-8 CAA). The Blue Hens have dropped six matches this season on five game decisions.

Delaware will be back in action Sunday, November 6 when they travel to CAA opponent Hofstra for a 1 p.m. match.
