SUBJECT: Delaware Volleyball Defeats VCU, 3-2, Colleen Walsh Records 26 Kills

RICHMOND, VA- Sophomore Colleen Walsh recorded a double-double with 26 kills and 17 digs to lead the University of Delaware volleyball over Virginia Commonwealth University, 3-2 (29-31, 30-23, 30-27, 25-30, 15-10), in Colonial Athletic Assoication action Saturday evening at the Alltel Pavilion at the Siegel Center.
Walsh, whose 26 kills rank 4th on the all-time individual match list, was helped by freshman Kelly Gibson who also recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. Junior Kristine Gneiss posted a career high seven blocks, while junior Heather Ranck, who ranks 24th in the nation with 5.05 digs per game, had a team-high 20 digs. Sophomore Megan Welch posted a double-double with 56 assists and 11 digs. Junior Claire McCormack had 14 digs, while freshman Clar Farwell made 11 kills and posted five blocks.
VCU was led by Ludmilla Francescatto who had 19 kills and 15 digs, while teammate Ana Luiza De Borja posted 15 kills and 13 digs. Griselle Lopez Pereira had a game-high 23 digs, while Renata Salvatori added 18 kills.
The match marks the 21st meeting between Delaware and the Rams, with the Blue Hens holding a 16-5 advantage all-time.
Delaware improves to 4-8 overall and 2-2 in the CAA, while VCU drops to 6-7 overall and 0-3 in the CAA.
The Blue Hens will be back in action Tuesday, September 20 when they travel to CAA opponent Towson for a 7:30 p.m. match.
