NEWARK, DE- Ludmilla Francescatto recorded a game-high 22 kills and posted 20 digs to lead the Virginia Commonwealth University volleyball team to a 3-2 (31-29, 18-30, 31-33, 30-26, 15-11) victory over Delaware in Colonial Athletic Assoication action Friday evening at Barbara Viera Court.
Junior Heather Ranck had a career-high 34 digs to lead the Blue Hens, while current CAA Rookie of the Week Kelly Gibson notched a team-high 19 kills and posted 17 digs. Sophomore Colleen Walsh recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs, while senior Niecy Taylor had 13 kills and a game-high six blocks.
VCU’s Ana Luiza De Borja posted 19 kills, while Renata Salvatori had 13 kills and 11 digs to lead the Rams. Shahrzad Firouzabadian recorded 12 digs, while teammate Cat Juson had 11.
The match marks the 22nd meeting between Delaware and the Rams, with the Blue Hens holding a 16-6 advantage all-time.
Delaware is now 9-15 overall and 5-7 in the CAA, while VCU improves to 13-9 overall and 6-5 in the CAA.
The Blue Hens will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday October 22, when they host CAA opponent William & Mary for a 7:00 p.m. match.
