VILLANOVA, PA- Alona Cherkez recorded 15 kills and 23 digs to lead the Villanova University volleyball team to a 3-1 (33-31, 27-30, 30-20, 30-23) win over Delaware Tuesday evening at Nevin Fieldhouse.
The Blue Hens were led by junior Heather Ranck who had a game-high 35 digs. Sophomore Colleen Walsh tallied a game-high 16 kills and posted 11 digs, while freshman Kelly Gibson had 15 kills and 14 digs. Senior Niecy Taylor had a game-high nine blocks and nine kills.
The Wildcats were also led by Megan Bye who posted 14 digs, while teammate Dana Kabashima totaled 10 kills and 13 digs. Celine Nguyen and Jenna Link each had 12 digs in the victory.
The match marked the 31st meeting between Delaware and the Wildcats, with Villanova holding a narrow 16-15 advantage all-time.
Delaware drops to 9-17 overall, while Villanova improves to 17-5.
The Blue Hens will be back in action Saturday, October 29 when they host CAA rival Towson for a 7 p.m. match.
