 NEW HAVEN, CT -- The University of Delaware volleyball team defeated Iona College, 3-0, while dropping a 3-0 match to Binghamton University in the Courtyard by Marriott Yale Classic Saturday at John J. Lee Ampitheater.
In Delaware’s first match of the day, Katie Brody posted 17 kills to lead Binghamton over the Blue Hens, while teammate Ashley Meffert recorded 10 digs.
Delaware was led by freshman Clar Farwell, an All-Tournament Team Selection, who made a career-high 12 kills and sophomore Megan Welch who had a game-high 13 digs in the first ever meeting between the Blue Hens and the Bearcats.
In the nightcap, freshman Kelly Gibson had a career night with 10 kills and 13 digs, while sophomore Colleen Walsh had a game-high 15 kills in Delaware’s 3-0 win over Iona. Farwell posted 11 kills and three blocks, while junior Kristine Gneiss made a career-high ten blocks.
Chelsea White had a game-high 31 digs to lead Iona, while taemmate Miki Hogg made 15 kills.
The match marks the third all-time between Delaware and Iona, with the Blue Hens holding a 3-0 advantage.
Delaware is now 5-11 overall (2-3 CAA), while Binghamton improves to 8-7 overall and Iona drops to 3-10 overall.
The Blue Hens will be back in action Friday, September 30 when they return home to take on CAA opponent Hofstra for a 7 p.m. match.
