NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore Kelly Gibson and freshman Kelly Matthias (right) each posted a game-high 12 kills to lead the University of Delaware volleyball team past previously unbeaten Temple, 3-0 (30-26, 30-23, 30-27) Tuesday evening at Barbara Viera Court..
The win moves Delaware’s record to 4-0 for the first time since 1994, while the Owls fall to 3-1.
For the Blue Hens, junior Megan Welch recorded a game-high 36 assists to go along with a team-high three service aces while Gibson led the team defensively with 16 digs. Junior Colleen Walsh recorded eight kills and Matthias added a team-high six blocks to go with her 12 kills.
A back and forth first game ended on a 4-0 Delaware run as the Hens broke a 26-26 tie to take command of the game. Hot hitting near the end continued in the second game as the Hens closed out the Owls with an 8-2 run.
Yue Liu led the way for Temple with a game-high 14 kills while Maira Mogollon posted a team-high 32 assists to go along with six digs.
The Hens will return to action Friday when they participate in the Wisconsin-Green Bay Tournament. Delaware opens play with a 5 p.m. match against Kent State.
