Blue Hens Post Big Comeback Victory at Towson, 3-2

athlete photoTOWSON, MD: The Delaware volleyball team dug itself out of a 2-0 hole as the Blue Hens won three straight games to down Towson Friday evening at the Towson Center in Colonial Athletic Association action.

The Blue Hens, who won their second straight match, earned the victory by scores of 27-30, 22-30, 30-28, 30-28 and 15-8. The win snapped a 10-match losing streak against Towson, dating back to the 2001 season. It was Towson’s second straight five-game loss.

For the Blue Hens, Kelly Gibson posted a game-high 20 kills and a game-high 29 digs. Freshman Michelle LaLonde tallied 13 kills to go along with a team-high six blocks. Setter Megan Welch led the way with a game-high 56 assists and Colleen Walsh (right) added 18 kills to move her into ninth in all-time kills at Delaware.

Delaware improves to 16-5 and 7-5 in the CAA, while Towson falls to 17-7 and 8-4 in conference play.

Sophomore outside hitter Maddie Haseltine recorded a team-high 19 kills to go with 13 digs in the loss for the Tigers while sophomore Ally Perko added 15 kills.

The Hens will return to action Wednesday when they host Villanova at Viera Court at 7 p.m.
