WEST POINT, NY -- The University of Delaware volleyball team started its spring season in fine fashion with a dominating performance in the Hens' first action since December during the Army Tournament hosted at the Gillis Field House.

During the competition, the Hens took on BIG EAST powers West Virginia and Seton Hall along with the host Black Knights and Iona Gaels.

Against the two BIG EAST programs, Delaware posted 2-0 sweeps before also taking both games from Iona. Against Army, the Hens split the two-game match, 1-1.

Seven players from last year's Colonial Athletic Association championship team participated in the tournament led by rising seniors Kelly Gibson and Molly Rand. All-American Steph Barry joined Katie Dennehy, Paige Erickson, Jess Chason, and Greta Gibboney to round out the veteran portion of the team.

Freshman Janeen McCormick, a 6-foot-2 middle hitter who enrolled at Delaware in the winter, also made her first appearance for the Hens over the weekend.

The team will continue its spring season with a tournament hosted by Georgetown on April 20. The following Saturday the Hens will cap off the year by participating in the first-ever collegiate indoor beach volleyball tournament in Rochester, NY.
