NEWARK, DE -- Steph Barry notched a match-high 17 digs and four service aces as the University of Delaware volleyball team steamed past Lehigh, 3-0 (30-13, 30-11, 30-19), during the Hens’ last non-conference bout of the season on Tuesday night at Viera Court.

During the win, Barry (at right) improved her conference-leading ace total to 50, while Kelly Gibson notched 14 kills and three aces. Colleen Walsh also added a team-high 15 kills in the match.

The victory marked the 24th for Delaware this season. That ties the most wins for the Hens in a single season since the team won 25 in 1995.

Delaware (24-4) dominated from the start, jumping out to 5-0 lead in the first game. After extending the lead to ten at 15-5, Gibson notched back-to-back service aces. Following a Lehigh timeout, the Hens came back firing, ending the match on a 12-7 run.

Up a game, Delaware made quick work of Lehigh in the second frame after getting out to an early 16-4 lead. After the Mountain Hawks cut into the deficit, the Hens went on a five-point run, led by three kills from Katie Dennehy. With a 23-7 advantage, Delaware eventually cruised to a 30-11 victory.

In the final frame, the Mountain Hawks took their only two leads of the match at 1-0 and 3-2. After the Hens pulled ahead, 10-6, Lehigh engineered a minor comeback, pulling within two at 15-13. Delaware quickly answered with six straight points and 15 of the last 21 to capture the set, 30-19.

During the match, the Hens held the Mountain Hawks to a -.010 attack percentage, while the Hens posted a .363 mark.

Megan Welch tallied a match-high 39 assists on the day, while Michelle LaLonde added seven kills and four blocks. Greta Gibboney chipped in with 10 digs, and Katie Dennehy had nine kills.

Lehigh (5-18) was led by Shannon Spafford, who had a match-high six blocks and a team-best 10 digs. Brittany Thurston added eight digs, three kills, and two blocks.

With the win, Delaware has now beaten a team from 15 different conferences, including all but one in the East and Mideast Regions.

The Blue Hens return to action on Friday at 7 p.m. when they host James Madison at Viera Court.
