NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware volleyball team was honored at halftime of the February 27 men's basketball game for the squad's accomplishments during its record-setting 2007 campaign.
At halftime, eight members of the team were joined by three coaches to display their 2007 Colonial Athletic Association championship trophy to the crowd of nearly 3,500 fans. Senior Colleen Walsh, junior Kelly Gibson, sophomores Michelle LaLonde and Steph Barry, as well as freshmen Greta Gibboney, Katie Dennehy, Jess Chason, and Paige Erickson received a standing ovation from those in attendance.
The players were honored along with head coach Bonnie Kenny, associate head coach Cindy Gregory, and strength & conditioning coach Jason Beaulieu. Megan Welch, Molly Rand, Heather Lively, and graduate assistant coach Sarah Graves also were key contributors to the team but unable to attend the celebration.
In 2007, the Blue Hens captured their first ever CAA Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. In the postseason, Delaware defeated Princeton in the first round before falling in a closely-contested bout with No. 17 St. John's in the round of 32.
During the historic campaign, Barry became the first Hen to earn All-American accolades after receiving Honorable Mention honors from the AVCA. Walsh was also named the CAA Player of the Year, while Welch earned conference Setter of the Year nods.
Kenny was named the conference Coach of the Year as well, while Gibson was a third-team All-Conference selection and Dennehy was honored with a spot on the All-Rookie squad.
At the basketball game, the volleyball team was honored alongside the 2007 football team, which advanced to the National Championship game and finished as the NCAA FCS runner-up.
