FAIRFAX, VA -- The University of Delaware volleyball team extended its winning streak to seven matches after topping George Mason, 3-1 (32-34, 30-27, 30-21, 30-19), during a Colonial Athletic Association match-up in Fairfax on Friday night.
Delaware (17-2, 2-0 CAA) was led by senior co-captains Colleen Walsh and Megan Welch. Walsh posted a game-high 21 kills, while Welch added a season-high 59 assists.
Freshman Katie Dennehy (at right) also set a new career-high in kills with 16. Kelly Gibson tallied her third double-double of the season after she had 15 kills and 12 digs.
After the Hens lost the first game of the match, they battled back from an 18-13 deficit in the second frame. After tying the game at 24, Delaware scored six of the last nine points behind two kills from Walsh and an ace from Molly Rand.
In the final two games, the Hens started quickly, posting a 17-8 lead in the first game and a 15-8 advantage in the final one.
During the match, Stephanie Barry had a team-high 16 assists, while Paige Erickson had eight kills and seven blocks.
The Patriots (7-7, 0-2 CAA) were led by Rebecca Walter who had 18 kills. Fernanda Bartels added 47 assists, while Kristen Byler had a match-high 19 digs..
The Blue Hens return to action tomorrow at 7 p.m. when they square off with James Madison in Harrisonburg, VA.
