BOSTON, MA -- Kelly Gibson posted her second straight 20/20 performance and Michelle LaLonde added her second double-double of the season, but the University of Delaware volleyball team could not hold off Northeastern in a 3-2 (23-30, 30-21, 29-31, 30-25, 13-15) loss at Solomon Court.

Gibson notched 23 digs and 20 kills two days after recording 25 kills and 24 digs against Hofstra. She became the first Hen to record back-to-back 20/20 matches since Joanna Dusza had two on the same day against William & Mary and New Hampshire in 1997.

LaLonde (at right) added 12 kills and 11 digs for her second double-double of the season. Katie Dennehy also notched a career-high 17 kills.

During the decisive fifth game, the Hens held a slim 6-5 advantage before Northeastern scored four straight points. Although Delaware cut the lead to one at 14-13, Northeastern’s Lauren DeTurk recorded the game-winning kill off a set from Jessica Tkachuk.

Tkachuk finished the match with a team-high 34 assists, while DeTurk led Northeastern (13-11, 5-2 CAA) with 20 digs and 19 kills.

After the Hens dropped the first set of the match, they jumped out to a 21-15 lead in the second game. Northeastern quickly trimmed the deficit to three, but Delaware (20-4, 5-2 CAA) scored five straight points and nine of the last 12 to tie the match at one game apiece.

In the third frame, Northeastern and Delaware were evenly matched, battling to 10 ties. Although the Hens eventually took the lead and held a 29-28 advantage, Northeastern staved off Delaware’s game point and eventually won, 31-29.

The fourth stanza played much like the third, with a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. After the Hens tied the game at 20, they quickly took the lead behind three-straight kills by Dennehy.

Delaware held on to the lead, winning by a 30-25 margin, to send the match into the fateful fifth game.

During the contest, Stephanie Barry had a team-high 25 digs, while Colleen Walsh posted 20 kills. Greta Gibboney also tallied a career-best 16 digs, and Paige Erickson added eight kills and a team-high seven blocks.

Along with DeTurk, Kira Batura and Britney Brown also notched double-doubles for Northeastern. Caitlin Tittl finished with 13 kills and seven blocks as well.

The Blue Hens return to action on Friday when they host Georgia State at 7 p.m.
