NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware volleyball team will look to paint Viera Court white as the Blue Hens plan a ‘Newark Nor’easter’ celebration for Friday night’s 7 p.m. match against the Northeastern Huskies.

All fans are encouraged to participate in the festivities and wear white to the contest. T-shirts, courtesy of the National 5&10, will also be handed out to the first 250 spectators that enter the arena.

The match is a battle between two teams with Colonial Athletic Association playoff berths already in hand. The league-leading Huskies enter the match with a 15-9 record, including a 9-1 mark in conference action. Delaware enters at 13-14 with a 7-4 mark in the CAA.

The Blue Hens are led by a flurry of All-Conference contenders, including junior libero Steph Barry, who leads the CAA with 525 digs. Her total is over 150 higher than the next closest competitor, while her 5.30 digs-per-set average also stands as the finest in the conference.

Outside hitter Katie Dennehy has also had a strong sophomore campaign, currently ranking third in the conference with 305 kills and 29 aces. She also stands fifth in the CAA with a 3.60 points-per-set average.

Fellow second-year standouts Greta Gibboney and Jess Chason have had excellent seasons as well. Gibboney ranks second in the conference with 32 aces, while Chason is tied for the league lead with 12 double-doubles and stands third with 878 assists.

Freshman phenoms Elena Delle Donne and Kim Stewart have also kicked off their careers in fine fashion, earning three Rookie of the Week honors apiece. Delle Donne ranks fifth in the CAA with a 1.00 blocks-per-set rate in conference action, while Stewart became the first Blue Hen freshman to earn a Player of the Week award when she was honored on October 20.

After facing Northeastern on Friday, the team will wrap up its home conference action on Saturday when the Hens face Hofstra at 7 p.m. Delaware’s regular-season home finale is next Tuesday when the squad hosts UMBC at 7 p.m.
