RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman outside hitter Kim Stewart has been selected as both the Co-Player and Rookie of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association for her outstanding contributions during the University of Delaware volleyball team’s three matches last week.

She is the first player in program history to simultaneously garner both a conference Player and Rookie of the Week award.

In helping the Hens go 3-0 with victories over Villanova, James Madison, and George Mason, Stewart led the team with a .308 hitting percentage and ranked second with 40 kills, 33 digs, and four aces.

Against Villanova, she posted her third double-double of the season after recording 16 digs and 11 kills. She also fired three aces against the Wildcats. In doing so, Stewart became the first Blue Hen to post a double-double and blast more than two aces since Colleen Walsh accomplished the feat against Brown last season.

She followed up her performance against Villanova with 10 kills, nine digs, and two blocks in the team’s win over James Madison before piecing together the finest match of her career against George Mason.

Against the Patriots, Stewart recorded a career-high 19 kills. Her total was the second highest by a Blue Hen this season and the highest in a four-set match. She also had eight digs and a team-best .368 hitting percentage in Delaware’s 3-1 victory over Mason.

On the season, Stewart has appeared in all 23 matches and 86 sets for the Hens. Her 26 aces this season are currently tied for the most in the conference along with teammate Greta Gibboney. She also ranks second on the squad with 213 digs and third with 157 kills.

With her three double-doubles, she is also the first Blue Hen freshman to record more than two in a single season since Kelly Gibson did it in 2005.

The honor is the first Player of the Week and second Rookie of the Week award for Stewart this season. She was also named the top freshman on September 8.

Along with her awards, fellow first-year standout Elena Delle Donne has also been honored as the Rookie of the Week twice. It marks the first time since 1992 that the team boasts multiple two-time selections.

Virginia Commonwealth’s Ivana Rich shared the CAA Co-Player of the Week award with Stewart.

The Blue Hens will return to action on Friday when the team hosts UNC Wilmington at 7 p.m.
