RICHMOND, Va. – Kim Stewart earned her third straight Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week award after helping lead the Blue Hens to a 1-1 record last week and the No. 3 seed in the upcoming conference playoffs.

With the honor, Stewart is the first player in school history to win three straight Rookie of the Week awards. She is also the first player in the conference to win five in a season since William & Mary’s Kim Mount also won five in 2005.

During the week, Stewart led Delaware with 21 kills and ranked second with 20 digs. She was the only player to record at least 10 kills in both of the team’s matches. Against Towson, she led the squad with 11 after tying for the team-lead with 10 against UMBC.

In the team’s 3-0 sweep over the Retrievers, she added 14 digs, marking her second-best effort in a three-set match this year. It also was her seventh double-double of the season. She is the first Blue Hen freshman to post at least seven since Kelly Gibson had 15 in 2005.

On Saturday, her 11 kills against the Tigers marked the sixth straight match during which she reached double-figures. Stewart is the first Blue Hen freshman to have a streak that long since Michelle LaLonde also posted at least 10 kills in six straight during the 2006 campaign.

On the season, Stewart ranks second on the team with 242 kills and 295 digs. She is also fourth on the squad with 22 aces and fifth with 39 blocks. She currently leads all conference freshmen in kills, digs, and aces.

The award is the 10th weekly honor for the Blue Hens this season. The team has won eight of the 12 Rookie of the Week awards, including the last five in a row. Along with Stewart's five honors, Elena Delle Donne has captured three. Stewart also was named the Co-Player of the Week on October 20, while Katie Dennehy was selected as the top player last week.

In addition to Stewart, the conference office honored James Madison’s Lauren Miles as the Player of the Week.

Stewart and the Blue Hens will continue action on Saturday when the team kicks off the CAA Tournament with a 7 p.m. first-round match-up against No. 6 Towson. The playoffs are hosted by Northeastern in Boston.
