NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware volleyball team continued to see its success translate from the court to the classroom after the Blue Hens capped off another extremely productive semester last week.
For the second consecutive semester, the majority of the squad's roster made the Dean's List. To receive the honor, a student must have full-time status and earn a 3.33 grade point average on Delaware's 4.0 scale.
The list of players to reach the mark was highlighted by seniors Colleen Walsh and Megan Welch (at right), who both completed their undergraduate coursework and earned their degrees in economics and hotel, restaurant, & institutional management, respectively.
As a team, the Blue Hens combined to post a 3.418 overall GPA in the spring semester. It was the highest GPA for the team in a single semester since head coach Bonnie Kenny took over the program in 2002. Including the fall semester, the squad notched a 3.27 mark for the entire year.
Several members of the team have been honored for their success in the classroom during the year. In the fall, Walsh, Molly Rand, Steph Barry, and Michelle LaLonde were all ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American nominees. Walsh was eventually named to the first-team All-District 2 team and garnered Delaware's ECAC Medal of Merit Award as the senior student-athlete with the highest GPA.
Eight Blue Hens also gained CAA Academic Honor Roll status following the team's successful 2007 campaign.
On the court, the squad combined for an equally impressive season during the fall as the Hens captured their first-ever CAA Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
