LEWISBURG, Pa. – University of Delaware volleyball standouts Stephanie Barry and Michelle LaLonde have been selected to the second-team CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District squad for their work on the court and in the classroom.
To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must carry a 3.3 or better grade point index on a 4.0 scale, have at least sophomore eligibility, and be a starter or key reserve for their team. District 2 includes all NCAA Division I schools in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, and Washington, DC.
Barry (above right), a business finance major, has established herself as one of the finest liberos in Colonial Athletic Association history. This year, she has earned the league’s Defensive Player of the Week award twice and currently ranks second in the CAA with a 4.81 digs-per-set average.
In her career, Barry has garnered All-American honors twice and earned the CAA Defensive Specialist of the Year award during each of the last two campaigns. Overall, she has posted 2,249 career digs, which stands as both the all-time school and conference record.
A native of Long Beach, California, Barry has been a perennial member of the CAA Academic Honor Roll.
LaLonde (below right), a biology major, has solidified her spot as one of the very best leaders in Delaware history. A two-time team captain, she has served as an imposing presence along the net throughout her tenure in Newark. This season, she ranks sixth in the CAA with a .284 hitting percentage in conference action.
Overall, she stands 10th in program history with 315 blocks, and her career 0.85 blocks-per-set average is sixth all-time. A former CAA All-Rookie selection, she led the conference with a .315 hitting percentage in 2007 while leading the team to its first CAA title.
A native of Wooster, Ohio, LaLonde has been selected to the CAA Academic Honor Roll during each of the past two seasons and was a two-time recipient of the prestigious Clothier “EGG” Scholarship.
The Blue Hen volleyball team has now produced three Academic All-District selections in the last three years. Along with Barry and LaLonde, Colleen Walsh garnered first-team honors in 2007.
This season, Delaware was the only program in the District to place two players on the All-Academic teams.
The two Blue Hens were joined on the second-team All-District squad by Temple’s Jackie Morrison, Bucknell’s Lindsay Smith, and Loyola’s Nina Camaioni.
