RICHMOND, Va. – Junior setter Jess Chason has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts while leading the University of Delaware volleyball team to a pair of conference wins last week.
During the team’s matches against UNC Wilmington and Georgia State, Chason led the Blue Hens with 85 assists for an average of 12.14 per set. Her performance also helped pace an offense that hit a combined .243 during the week, far out-distancing their opponents’ .091 mark.
Chason started the week by notching 32 assists against UNCW, marking her third-highest total in a three-set match this year. She also chipped in with a block and kill during the squad’s sweep over the Seahawks.
On Sunday, Chason returned to the court to post an incredible effort against Georgia State. During the match, she recorded 53 assists, which marked the most by a Blue Hen in a four-set contest since the NCAA switched to 25-point sets. It was also the highest total by any player in the CAA in a four-set contest this year.
Along with her assists, Chason also helped the team by adding 16 digs against the Panthers, which tied her season-high. That performance marked her fifth double-double of the season.
Overall, Chason has posted 707 assists this season and leads the CAA with a 10.10 assists-per-set average. She also ranks third on the team with 151 digs and has added 24 blocks and 15 aces as well.
The honor is the second weekly award for Chason this year after she also earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week accolades on September 8. She is one of only two players in the conference to earn the honor twice along with teammate Katie Dennehy.
Along with Chason, the CAA honored George Mason’s Holly Goode as the Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Hofstra’s Anissa Whitney was named the top defensive player. William & Mary’s Shaylin O’Connell was also selected as the league’s top rookie.
Delaware volleyball will return to action on Friday when the team travels to James Madison for a 7 p.m. clash with the Dukes.
