NEWARK, Del. – During halftime of last Saturday’s football game at Tubby Raymond Field, the University of Delaware volleyball team was honored on the field for its incredible success over the past few seasons.

The squad was greeted warmly by the 22,000 Delaware faithful, who also witnessed the Blue Hens upset No. 12 UMass, 43-27. During the halftime event, the volleyball team was honored for its back-to-back Colonial Athletic Association titles over the past two years.

The entire 2009 roster, along with head coach Bonnie Kenny, associate head coach Cindy Gregory, and graduate assistant Courtney Stewardson, all were in attendance. The current team, which is ranked fifth in the East Region, stands at 12-5 with a pristine 5-0 record in conference action.

Over the past two years, the Blue Hens finished the season at the top of the CAA after swiping the conference championship in both 2007 and 2008. With those titles, the team also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for their efforts, reaching the round of 32 in 2007.

On an individual level, setter Jess Chason was named the Most Outstanding Performer of last year's CAA Championship, while Steph Barry and Katie Dennehy also earned recognition for their efforts during the tournament.

The Blue Hens will be back in action on Friday when the team travels to UNC Wilmington for a 7 p.m. showdown with the Seahawks.
