NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware volleyball team will travel down to South Campus and take on North Carolina during a special non-conference showdown at the Bob Carpenter Center on September 18 at 7 p.m.
The match, which will be the first one played at the BCC since 2002, pits a pair of 2008 NCAA Tournament participants against one another. The Blue Hens advanced to their second straight national tournament last season, while the Tar Heels moved on to the Round of 32 in 2008.
Free Delaware “Gold Rush” t-shirts will be distributed to the first 400 fans courtesy of the National 5&10. T-shirt tosses, giveaways, and a postgame autograph session with the team will also highlight the evening. Doors open at 6 p.m.
During the mid-match intermission between sets two and three, there will also be a special pep rally for the Delaware football team. Fans will be encouraged to cheer on the Blue Hens as they prepare to face in-state rival Delaware State during the Route 1 Rivalry on Saturday, September 19 at 12 noon.
Fans can purchase tickets for the volleyball match through Ticketmaster. The cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children 17 and under. Football and basketball season ticket holders can also receive a special discounted $2 ticket. For more information, please contact the season ticket office at (302) 831-2257.
University employees can also pick up free tickets for the match on a limited first-come, first-served basis at the UD Bookstore in the Perkins Student Center and the Trabant University Center during the week of the match. There is a limit of four tickets per person with valid identification.
Busing to and from the match will be provided for students, who can enter the match for free with their student ID. Delaware fraternity and sorority members will also receive CAP points for attending the match.
The Blue Hens are led into action by two-time All-American libero Steph Barry. CAA Player of the Week Jess Chason, Preseason All-Conference selection Katie Dennehy, and reigning Rookie of the Year Kim Stewart also highlight a well-rounded lineup.
