NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware volleyball team will hold a pair of special promotions this weekend at Barb Viera Court as the squad enters the stretch run in its battle for a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association playoffs.
On Friday, when the team takes on Virginia Commonwealth at 7 p.m., the Blue Hens will hold their first-ever “Black Out” night. All fans are encouraged to wear black to the match, and the first 200 spectators in attendance will also receive special black shirts sponsored by the National 5&10.
The following night, the Hens will team-up with the Side-Out Foundation and hold their annual "Dig Pink" match in support of breast cancer awareness. Through raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research, the team and organization hope to support health care professionals in their pursuit of eradicating the deadly disease.
To support the team’s efforts, fans are encouraged to wear pink to the match.
For more information or to donate to the cause, fans can visit Delaware’s official team page on the Side-Out Foundation’s website by clicking on this link: Side-Out.org.
Along with the special promotions, the team will also hold a post-game autograph session following both matches. Giveaways, t-shirt tosses, and other promotions will highlight the festivities as well.
Delaware enters the weekend at the top of the CAA standings with an 8-1 record. The Hens hold a 1.5-game lead over both VCU and William & Mary, who currently stand at 6-2.
Tickets for both matches can be purchased at the door. The cost is $4 for adults and $2 for youth 17 and under.
