DOVER, Del. – University of Delaware volleyball head coach Bonnie Kenny will be honored at Delaware State University’s “Delaware Diamond Extravaganza” on February 19 for her contributions to women’s athletics in the First State.
In eight seasons at the helm of the University of Delaware volleyball team, Kenny has turned the Blue Hens into one of the finest programs in the East. Since taking over the team in 2002, she has guided Delaware to a combined 146-104 record, two NCAA Tournament appearances, and a pair of Colonial Athletic Association championships.
During the past three seasons, Kenny has led the program to unparalleled success. Since 2007, the Blue Hens have posted a 71-29 record and captured a share of two regular season CAA titles. In 2007 and 2008, Delaware also claimed the conference’s postseason championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
A three-time CAA Coach of the Year, she ranks among the top-50 active coaches in career wins after compiling a 486-356 record in her 26 years at South Carolina, Massachusetts, and Delaware. One of the most respected coaches in the country, she also served as the President of the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 2006 and 2007.
Along with Kenny, 10 other people will be honored at the banquet. Bradley Caine, Evelyn Edney, Dionna Harris, Gwendolyn Harris, Rita and Kermit Justice, Laura Leone, Rob Perciful, Joan Samonisky, and Deborah Windett will also be celebrated for their efforts.
The guest speaker for the event will be Joetta Clark Diggs, who was a four-time Olympian and captured 11 NCAA championships as a member of the Tennessee track and field team.
