January 14, 2000 Rible Leads Delaware Over Northeastern 68-55 in Women's Hoops
NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore center Christina Rible scored a game-high 20 points and pulled eight rebounds and junior guard Cindy Johnson added 17 points to lead the University of Delaware to a 68-55 America East women's basketball victory over Northeastern Friday night at the Bob Carpenter Center. The Blue Hens (10-5, 3-3 America East) won their second straight and improved to 7-1 at home this season. Northeastern (8-7, 3-2), the defending conference champion, got 19 points, seven rebounds, and five assists from all-league guard Tesha Tinsley. Northeastern center Lani Lawrence added 14 points and Garrette Glinton came off the bench to add 13 points. Delaware shot 46 percent from the field and was helped by a season-low 11 turnovers. Danielle Leyfert added 12 points and Christine Koren dished out seven assists for Delaware. Rible, averaging 10.5 rebounds per game but shooting just 45.9 percent from the field, connected on 8 of 13 shots from the field for her 20 points, just two shy of her career-high. She scored 12 of her points in the second half. Delaware led by as much as 11 points late in the second half at 28- 17 before the Huskies scored the final eight points of the half to pull to within 30-25 at intermission. Northeastern tied the score at 33-33 four minutes into the second half but Delaware reeled off nine straight points to take control. Northeastern cut the lead to four points at 56-52 with 3:35 left, but Leyfert hit a layup, Johnson converted a three-point play, and Rible netted a jumper to give the Hens some breathing room.
