DANIELLE LEYFERT
Sophomore • Guard/Forward • 5-11 • Vienna, VA

Blue Hens' top player...can play at either shooting guard or small forward...earned America East All-Rookie team honors as a freshman in 1997-98, just missing league Rookie of the Year honors...led team in scoring (13.3 ppg; 8th in America East), assists (60), steals (45), and minutes played (34.6 per game), and ranked third in rebounding (5.5 rpg)...has good moves around the basket...set UD freshman records for points in a season (358) and in a game twice (29 vs. Delaware State; 34 at home vs. Northeastern)....scored 20 or more points in a game four times and had season-high 11 rebounds vs. James Madison... enjoyed outstanding career at Oakton HS where she was ranked as the fourth best senior in Virginia...named to Street & Smith's honorable mention All-American team...scored a school-record 1,235 points and averaged 16.5 ppg and 8 rpg as a senior and 15.5 ppg and 8 rpg as a junior...first team All-State and Region Player of the Year in 1996-97...three-time All-District ...also played soccer...physical education major at Delaware.

One of the league's top young backcourt players...has great quickness and has improved ball-handling skills...outstanding rebounder for a guard....earned spot on America East All-Rookie Team as a freshman last season...ranked third on the team in scoring (10.6 ppg), second in assists (54, 2.0 apg), second in steals (39), third in three-pointers (7), and fourth in rebounding (4.4 per game)...shot 79.4 percent from the foul line to lead team and set UD freshman record...came on late in the season, scoring 23 points vs. Maine Feb. 8 and 23 points vs. Boston University Feb. 21...also pulled 12 rebounds in the game vs. Boston University...had season-high six assists vs. Northeastern... three-year starter at August Martin HS where she scored over 1,000 career points and led team to three city titles...averaged 18 ppg, 5.0 rpg, and 6.0 apg as a senior when she led team to 26-1 record and state runner-up finish and was named first team All-City...averaged 15 ppg as a junior in 1995-96 when team went 24-1 and lost in state quarterfinals...member of Guyana National Team that played in Central America Tournament and in Jamaica the last two summers....English major at Delaware.

 

SUZANNE STREET

Intimidating force as a rebounder and shot blocker in the middle for Blue Hens...has improved scoring...played first season at Delaware last season after transferring from Ohio University...led America East and ranked 19th in the NCAA in blocked shots (56 for 2.1 blpg average; 2nd highest season total in UD history), led team in rebounding (7.4 rpg; 7th in America East) and field goal pct. (.498), and was second in scoring (11.1 ppg)...also shot 69.2 percent from the foul line...scored in double figures 14 times, including 9 times in the final 13 games, with high of 21 at home vs. Maine...had four double-doubles...had season-high six blocked shots vs. Vermont (Jan. 18)...played 1995-96 season at Ohio University where she scored 20 points (1.1 ppg) and pulled 14 rebounds (0.8 rpg) in 18 games as a backup...averaged 16.5 ppg, 12 rpg, and 5 blocks per game as a senior at Slippery Rock HS...played junior season at Butler HS...physical education major.

 

CHRIS SEIFERT

Co-captain...outstanding frontcourt player who returns after missing all but two games last season with torn knee ligaments...can play at big forward or center...had seven points and six rebounds off bench vs. Navy and added nine rebounds vs. James Madison before suffering injury in practice...retained freshman eligibility...moved into starting center spot at mid-season of freshman year in 1996-97 and started 18 games...averaged 5.5 ppg and was third on team with 4.5 rebounds per game...led team and ranked ninth in AMERICA EAST with 20 blocks (0.8 blpg)...had top two games vs. Boston University, scoring 17 points with 11 rebounds during the regular season and adding 14 points and 12 rebounds in tournament play-in win...one of the top players in Lebanon County history at Eastern Lebanon County HS...scored 1,307 career points and set school records with 872 rebounds and 185 blocked shots...averaged 16 ppg and 10 rpg as a senior...three-time All-county pick...state qualifier in discus for track...nursing major who works as an Emergency Medical Technician in the summer.

 

TRACY WHITLING

Coming off a solid freshman season where she showed steady improvement...has good offensive skills and teams with starter Suzanne Street to give Blue Hens one of tallest lineups in America East...played in 23 games with four starts in 1997-98...averaged 3.7 ppg and 4.1 rpg and shot 52.2 percent from the field...struggled at the foul line, hitting just 28 percent (14 of 50)...had best game at home vs. Drexel with 10 points and15 rebounds...one of the most highly-touted recruits in recent Delaware history...earned Street & Smith's honorable mention All-American honors as a senior when she was named one of the top 40 seniors in the nation by Nike/WBCA...two-time All-State pick, two-time District 10 Player of the Year, and three-time All-conference selection...set Oil City HS records for career points (1,346) and rebounds (1,213)...averaged 18.5 ppg and 16.5 rpg as a senior when she led team to 24-3 record and district runner-up spot...also a two-time All-State volleyball player...animal science major at Delaware...co-secretary of Episcopal Campus Ministry at Delaware.

 

KATHY CORCORAN
Sophomore • Guard • 5-3 • Chalfont, PA

Second-year member of squad as a walk-on...proved to be a valuable addition last season after joining team midway through pre-season drills...good ball-handler who averaged 9.7 minutes in 18 games...scored 13 points (0.7), dished out 19 assists (1.1 apg), and pulled 11 rebounds (0.6 rpg)...had four assists vs. Delaware State....enjoyed an outstanding career at Central Bucks West High School where she was a four-year starting point guard and a four-time All-Suburban One performer...earned honorable mention All-State honors as a junior...scored 1,059 career points to go with 500 assists and 400 steals...was first guard to score 1,000 points in school history and also set school records for three-pointers in a game, season, and career (100)...team won two conference titles and advanced to state tournament her sophomore year...also played tennis and ran track...accounting major at Delaware.

Co-captain...begins first season with Delaware after sitting out last season after transfer from American University...great all-around talent and leader who should move right into big forward spot for the Blue Hens...played in 24 games in a reserve role at American in 1996-97, leading the Eagles to an 18-9 record...averaged 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game and shot 78 percent from the foul line to earn a spot on the Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie team...had a career-high 19 points and 10 rebounds vs. UNC-Wilmington...enjoyed an outstanding three-sport career at Padua Academy in Wilmington..was a two-time Gatorade state Player of the Year and three-time All-State performer...was the 1996 state high school Player of the Year in volleyball and the state indoor and outdoor high jump champion....younger sister, Stephanie, plays basketball at Villanova...honor student majoring in criminal justice and psychology at Delaware.

 

KAREN MULLIGAN

Another first-year eligible player for the Blue Hens...transferred from St. John's University and sat out last season...brings instant leadership, experience, and toughness to Delaware backcourt...will battle for starting spot at shooting guard...played two seasons in the Big East at St. John's...played in 24 games as a freshman in 1995-96, averaging 2.5 points and 1.1 rebounds per game...as a sophomore in 1996-97, started the first 12 games and was averaging 4.8 ppg, 3.0 rpg, and 1.3 apg before missing remainder of season knee injury....enjoyed a brilliant career at Connetquot HS on Long Island, earning All-American and Suffolk County Player of the Year laurels...physical education major.

 

LINDSAY DAVIS

Outstanding shooter who will compete for playing time at shooting guard or small forward...three-sport standout in basketball, softball, and and soccer at River Dell High School, earning All-County honors in each...earned four letters in basketball, earning All-County honors three times, All-League laurels four times, and first team All-State and All-American notice as as senior...led team to four-year record of 99-10 and the 1997 county title...averaged 26.0 ppg and 12.0 rpg as a senior and became school's all-time leading scorer and rebounder (1,244)...averaged 14.2 ppg and 12 rpg as junior...earned All-State honors in softball as a pitcher, setting a school record for wins in a career... physical education major at Delaware who would like to go into coaching...worked in the NBA New Jersey Nets office this past summer.

Outstanding prospect who could battle for starting point guard spot as a freshman this season...has all the skills needed to be an outstanding leader of Blue Hen offense...enjoyed a stellar career at Berwick High School, leading team to district title and Pennsylvania state runner-up spot last season...team was ranked in the final USA Today Top 20 national poll...four-year varsity starter who was a three-time Wyoming Valley Conference Player of the Year...earned All-State honors as a junior and senior...averaged over 21 ppg over her final two seasons...set school record for points in a career with 2,299 and established season record for points three times...broke school's girls and boys single game scoring record with 62 vs. Pittston, breaking record set by her father, Lew...also played soccer at Berwick...National Honor Society member...arts and sciences major at Delaware.

 

VALERIE KATSORHIS
Freshman • Guard • 5-8 • Jamaica, NY

High-scoring freshman who will battle for playing time at both point guard and shooting guard...capped an outstanding career at Benjamin Cardozo HS last winter where she was a four-year starter and had her number (21) retired...averaged 26.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game as a senior when she was named first team All-City and All-Queens by Newsday, New York Post, and New York Daily News...averaged 18.0 ppg as a junior...named Queens Player of the Year as a senior...led Cardozo HS to two division titles and scored 1,499 career points.

 

CHRISTINA RIBLE
Freshman • Forward • 6-1 • Little Silver, NJ

Will add solid depth to Blue Hen frontcourt as a freshman...had an outstanding career at Red Bank Regional High School...four-year varsity starter at forward...led Red Bank to the New Jersey State Group III title as a senior...earned second team All-State honors as a senior and third team as a junior...competed in New Jersey All-Star Classic...scored over 1,000 career points...averaged 16.7 points and 11.6 rebounds per game as a junior...also was a standout in softball and tennis (No. 1 singles player) at Red Bank...business major at Delaware.

 

ERIN WILMER

One of four freshman guards on this year's Blue Hen squad...will be used primarily at point guard...basketball, lacrosse, and cross country standout ...attended Arundel HS before moving to Pallotti High School for senior year...three-year starter in basketball at Arundel, leading team to 1996 state title and two county titles...averaged 17.5 ppg as a junior at Arundel HS...earned All-State honors as a senior at Pallotti, earning Laurel Player of the Year honors...earned All-conference honors in lacrosse...National Honor Society member...biology major at Delaware.

 

CHRISTINE KOREN
Junior • Guard • 5-6 • Drums, PA

Will sit out the 1998-99 season due to NCAA transfer rules...transferred from Seton Hall University last spring after playing three seasons with the Pirates...originally recruited by Tina Martin while at Seton Hall...classic point guard with great ball-handling and passing skills...played in 79 games with 76 starts over three seasons at Seton Hall, scoring 473 points (6.0 ppg), pulling 199 rebounds (2.5 rpg), and dishing out 389 assists (4.9 apg)...team tri-captain in 1997-98 when she averaged 4.8 ppg, dished out 155 assists (5.7 per game; 5th in Big East), and led team in three-point shooting (.327)...had career highs of 21 points (Rider) and 12 assists (Rutgers)...elementary education major with minor in psychology...active in student-athlete community service while at Seton Hall...All-American at Hazleton HS where she set school career scoring record (1,834 points) and averaged 20.3 ppg...drove cross country and camped for two weeks this past summer
